Thoughts
on the HI/LO jacks & the 3-Way EQ Switch
For the input jacks, the low jack adds a pad just before the input to
the first preamp tube. It attenuates how much signal will hit the first
preamp since the amp volume is after the first preamp. It acts the same
as turning the volume down on your guitar. The use of high vs Low is
purely a preference thing. If you are using hot humbuckers but want
the most clean headroom, you would plug into the low input for your
best chance of getting clean. We actually encourage users to just try
each input with any guitar they plan to use to see how it performs.
Again, no right or wrong here....
The
3-way switch changes out the cathode cap on the first preamp, adjusting
just how much frequency the tube is allowed to pass. One position passes
the most frequencies so it seems to boost the signal, the middle position
has no bypass cap so it is more of a neutral setting so best for cleans,
and the last position boosts more of the middle and high frequencies
with a cut of lower frequencies. Can come in handy when you're hitting
it hard not to overload the bottom.
Although
not totally necessary, to Gain easier access to tubes, you CAN remove
rear panel by backing out the four screws from the cab.
ALSO make sure amp unplugged. BUT FIRST, to drain PS caps,
with amp ON and active, unplug from wall.
***IMPORTANT:
Make sure amp is leaning forward on rug/towel
work space. Screws
are holding chassis to cab providing full support without which amp
chassis could drop.
