Michael Swart

Head Honcho ~ chief engineer/design
Swart Amplifier Co.

Michael Swart, long time musician and recording engineer who owns and runs a 24 track studio located in Wilmington, NC has been using vintage tube amps of yore for live gigs and studio work.

Vintage Vox, Fender, and Ampeg cycled though. Michael always found something missing in a perfect small recording amp for studio and home use that exhibited great tone and distortion characteristics, all the while, remaining flexible (and quiet) enough for recording use.

Michael Swart's latest project - The Jackson Hives "Cafe Racer"Swart then started building custom tube amps to get the exact tone he wanted. The original SPACE TONE is as a result of this need for a small studio or home amp that could provide BIG tone with quality distortion when needed. The Atomic Space Tone followed and the rest is history.

These are now Michael's most requested amplifiers for studio and gig use. Each additional Swart amp has been building on this success. Indeed, the sound is only equaled by the amazing raves. Yet nothing in this text could prepare you for the tone. You're just going to have to try one and find out for yourself. You'll never go back...

Maybe a bit of the glue that holds everything together as Kelly has been here since day one, back when it was a simple garage/studio endeavor.   Pretty much everything you read on swartamps.com is from kh and he's the first one you'll likely talk to when emailing with any questions, whether technical or opinions on speakers, tubes, or sonic differences.

Getting back to customers seven days a week has been a Swart staple and this goal has been spearheaded by kh.  A certified audio freak into high-end audio with tubes in all his audio gear along with vintage high efficiency horn speakers; he's usually typing while something is blasting on his main system.   kh likes to discuss things in detail and getting a multi-paragraph email is often the result (whether you like it or not)

Just like Swart, kh is a musician and his original mid 60s Ludwig trap set with 50s Zildjians is still hanging out in the Swart studio.  kh was the main person testing the amps until he started worrying about hearing loss as things would often turn into an impromptu jam session due to just liking the amps TOO damn much.  Michael and Kelly loved playing together since they met in the UNC-Wilmington college radio station some 30+ years ago.   And they are still loving the amp business just as much after all these years.
