This was really a limited edition run of our legendary AST combo but in a custom made head cabinet to allow us to drop the AST COMBO chassis into a HEAD CAB. This was known as the AST Head Mk I.  We only made about @ 26 of these but a few prior made combo might have made their way into this cab before we put a stop to the design. Years later, a few dark samples were made as pictured at bottom, perhaps only two. 

We later came out with the Mk II head with different output transformer allowing for 4-8-16ohm taps along with a new master volume.  But for those looking for the original AST vibe, this was the way to get this sound/take into a head form.  But this really is literally the AST combo amp.

So it's the combo's 8ohm output transformer but truth be told, it can push a 16ohm load and sound pretty sweet with some great tone doing it.  Running a 16ohm Blue, Ruby, Cream even sounds pretty cool.  But obviously for best matching and output, 8ohm recommended. 

***NOTE: Always make sure to have a LOAD PLUGGED into OUTPUT or risk damage to output transformer
