Michael's just performed a mod that we
think you'll really dig even more, as it brings that great Swart Tremolo to
even slower pulsing magic, in addition to adding more useful range via the
speed knob, all the way down to 0 (Yeah, we know it used to
stop at high noon) . And since Michael just recreated said mod in the AST
Head II and one of our trusty prototypes with 100% success, we're decided
to make a DIY "How-to" for the enthusiast with a little soldering
iron ability (Of course, a tech or friend to bribe will also do nicely). Bottom
line? This simple, inexpensive mod will work in the AST, AST Pro, AST Head,
AST Head II (pre #40), and SST-30.
Not only that, but we'll sell you the parts kit for $16, including shipping,
for those that dont want to mess with the parts round-up. Order
below
On the other hand, if you're feeling a
bit apprehensive, or don't have someone you trust, Michael will be happy to
perform this operation for $50 plus shipping (this includes parts and labor).
Tremolo Mod Parts List:
• CTS 3M Potentiometer (Reverse Audio) (Mojo Part #9010045)
• 2.2M 1/2w Carbon Comp Resistor (Mojo Part #7292030)
The only parts you need will
be a 3 Meg "Reverse Audio" pot along with a 2.2 Meg 1/2w resistor.
The 2.2M resistor is simply soldered across the top and middle two lugs on
the pot. You can source the parts anywhere you like but we have linked to
Mojo's selection for convenience if you want to mimic our selection.
Currently the white wire goes to the top of the Pot if you are looking at
the chassis. On the new pot, you will solder the white wire to the center
lug of the pot and move the two green wires from the bottom lug to the top
lug. The 2.2M Reistor will connect the top and middlle lugs.

5) Put the amp back into the cabinet and test…
That will do if all went well. Don't forget to avoid cold solder joints. Also, as an aside, when installing ye olde chicken head, be sure to align "0" and true zero speed.
Alas, you can finally use that last 1/2 a knob rotation, bringing that sweet baby magic slow daddy tremolo like you knew it could. Send photos of your own install if you feel so inclined!
Have fun playing the latest from Swart.
